"Warsaw - view from the East" - Description

This film is a documentary picture of Warsaw seen by young Russians, who for various reasons decided to come to Warsaw just before it enters the European Union. It is also their first trip abroad. We meet the characters during their coach trip from Minsk to Warsaw. We learn about their plans from their conversations. Among the characters are: Aleksiej - a journalist going for his first holiday for many years, Wlada - a make-up artist planning to visit her family and possibly gain Polish citizenship, Dannila - a biology scientist going for the meetings with Polish professor and Wasilij - a student who just wants to visit new places and possibly earn some money as well.

The film portrays the characters' impressions just after their arrival in Warsaw. Trying to find themselves in this new situation, they are visiting places and meeting its inhabitants, who are so diverse, just like the places we see. Also important are the conversations with the Russian and the Ukrainian artists, met by chance, who already had had the opportunity to learn about Polish and Warsaw everyday life; their opinions are therefore valuable to our characters, and also interesting for the audience. Maybe thanks to them, we will be able to verify, as a result of collision with reality, their stereotyped opinions about each other.

This film was be a part of the evening theme about Warsaw, organised by the European Cultural Television ARTE and Channel 2 of Polish Television. (TVP Ltd).
